Epistemic opportunities and challenges in artificial intelligence
Article Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force in our digital age, recognized for its capacity to complement human intelligence. However, despite the significant opportunities AI presents, concerns regarding the challenges posed by AI-driven applications are increasing. This contrast is particularly evident in knowledge practices; while AI reshapes how humans navigate and optimize information and knowledge, its adoption introduces epistemic challenges that tend to undermine the integrity of human knowledge. This research contextualizes AI within epistemological traditions, exploring the epistemic opportunities and challenges inherent in its integration into knowledge practices. To address these challenges, the study recommends collaborative engagement guided by human oversight to preserve epistemic autonomy, alongside institutional and technical safeguards to realign AI’s framework with traditional epistemic values. The research concludes that creative, critical engagement with AI—rather than resistance—is essential for maximizing technological benefits while safeguarding the foundational integrity of human knowledge.
